Chicago Metropolis 2020 manages the public awareness campaign for the IVPA Safe from the Start grant program. The FY 09 grant will be used to produce the second DVD, A Clingy Thing, and corresponding coloring book; and develop the third DVD, Mobile, for distribution to the Safe From the Start sites and relevant partners.

IVPA provides funding for the purpose of evaluating the Chicago Project for Violence Prevention, a comprehensive, community-based, and city-wide violence prevention model. The evaluation project is in its ninth year of a multiple baseline study design that continues to monitor and document the stages of intervention implementation in selected communities, track violent crime records, analyze community trends related to violence.

IVPA will work collaboratively with the Illinois Center for Violence Prevention (ICVP) on the following projects:
1. Best Practices Institute. Funding supports training, program development to community groups on violence prevention and evaluation for the Illinois Health Cares grant program.
2. Youth Advisory Board. ICVP coordinates and manages the activities of the IVPA Youth Advisory Board (YAB), which provides youth throughout Illinois opportunities for violence prevention leadership development. YAB is a geographically and racially diverse group, ages thirteen to twenty-one. YAB is represented on the IVPA Board with one voting seat. Additionally, YAB recommends funding for IVPA’s Youth-Led Mini Grants which are programs working to prevent violence in schools and communities.
3. Illinois Health Cares Initiative. Funding supports efforts conducted through the Illinois Health Cares initiative to promote improvement and effect systems change in the health care response to domestic/intimate partner violence, elder abuse, and sexual violence. Activities focus on the provision of technical assistance and public education regarding abuse as a health care issue, increasing the capacity/infrastructure of health care systems to respond, improving clinical responses, and supporting consistent, quality training for health care providers.

The ICTC is a burgeoning Coalition of major state and public agencies in Illinois dedicated to a public health approach to the evolving field of childhood trauma through public awareness, professional development and coordination between systems. IVPA funds support staffing for ongoing projects.

IVPA is supporting the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence’s 13th Annual Essay, Poetry, and Imagery Contest. This statewide competition educates students about the problems of gun violence and empowers them with peaceful solutions.

The Mental Health America of Illinois provides training to volunteers on regional teams across the state for the School Crisis Assistance Team (SCAT) Project. The SCAT Project was developed for the purpose of providing services to decrease the effects of emotional trauma on individuals and communities in the immediate aftermath of a traumatic incident, assisting with crisis planning, and providing education on trauma and the proactive development of adaptive capacities and coping mechanisms. MHAI has worked collaboratively with IVPA on the SCAT project since its inception in 1999.

Voices for Illinois Children will continue to be the Fiscal/Administrative Agent for the Illinois Children’s Mental Health Partnership. The Children’s Mental Health Partnership plans, develops and promotes policy work associated with the implementation of the Illinois Children’s Mental Health Act of 2003 (ACT). IVPA funds support essential staff positions and related costs for ICMHP activities.

The ILAACP collaborates with IVPA to provide technical support to the Choose Respect Illinois grantees. IVPA funds support ILAACP staff provide technical support and expertise around issues of youth and adult partnerships, diversity and inclusion.
